Istrian Castles - Istarski Kašteli

Istrian medieval architecture was marked by castra, a Roman building or land constructed for military uses. The first written document that mentions Istrian castrums dates back to 983. They are of great cultural importance, as there are many myths and legends associated with them throughout the ages.  Although used by feudal lords for defensive purposes, they were often used for leisure and control stations for their lands.
